Korea's Lee Yong Dae and Yoo Yeon Seong had a brilliant season with four World Superseries titles (three in June) and runner-up finishes at the BWF World Championships and the Asian Games. Yoo also won the Asian Championships gold medal (with Shin Baek Choel). This will be their first campaign in the Finals together. Lee was the 2009 winner, partnering Jung Jae Sung.

Record to be made
Son Wan Ho, the reigning Hong Kong Open winner will look to build on his form to become the first ever Korean singles winner at the Superseries Finals. Indonesia’s Tontowi Ahmad and Liliyana Natsir will also try to jostle their way in a competitive field to earn their country a first gold in the mixed doubles event, with previous victories shared by China and Denmark.

Match not to miss
Even in the absence of 2012 and 2013 champion Li Xuerui, the presence of 2010 winner Wang Shixian and 2011 winner Wang Yihan has put the odds firmly in favor of the trophy retained by China. Tai Tzu Ying, however, has other ideas. Recently winning the last Superseries event of the year in Hong Kong, Tai will certainly come into the Finals high on confidence. Tai holds winning records against both Chinese giants, including the victory over Wang Shixian right at this event last year where Tai finished as the runner-up.

Lee Sheng Mu and Tsai Chia Hsin qualified for the year-end showdown for the first time as a team, while it is Lee’s second appearance after four years in the prestigious event, making the top-8 field in the 2010 Finals with Fang Chieh-Min.
